Correspondence from E.E. Bradford to George Cecil Ives

Uranian poet and children’s story writer E.E. Bradford corresponded regularly with fellow English poet and writer George Cecil Ives. In the mid-1890s, Ives founded the Order of Chaeronea, a secret society organized to advocate for the decriminalization of homosexuality in England and to share literary and philosophical writings on same-sex love. Bradford, an Anglican priest who served as the vicar of a small church in Nordelph, was likely a member of the Order. Physical copies of Bradford’s letters to Ives about literature and politics can be found in the British Sexological Society Records held at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin. This exhibit contains digitized letters sent from Bradford to Ives between 1920 and 1922.
