Dear Sir:
As the recent session of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, the following resolution was passed unanimously; "Our Convention calls upon our Senators and Representatives in Congress to advocate such legislation as will deliver us from the public scandal of allowing the Federal Government to license the sale of liquor when it is a violation of State laws."
We, the undersigned, were authorized to act for the convention, representing 250,000 white Baptists in Mississippi, in bringing this matter urgently to your attention.
Our information is that a large per cent of the crimes committed in Mississippi have their origin in the places where liquor is sold with the license of the Federal Government. We earnestly ask your assistance in securing legislation which will correct this evil.
